Father Hopes Daughter’s Story Will Make Road Safer

JERSEY– Casey’s father, Joel Feldman, is broadcasting her story with the help of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

“My grief was so overwhelming,” said Joel Feldman, father of Casey Feldman. The newest, heart wrenching video on a U.S. Department of Transportation’s website shows those who were close Casey Feldman telling the late 21-year-old Pennsylvania resident’s story.

“She was somebody you knew would grow up to be very special someday,” said a college friend in the video. The video’s narrator continued, “Casey’s life ended on July 17th 2009. She was struck and killed by a distracted driver while she was crossing a street in a crosswalk. He had taken his eyes off the road for just a few seconds.”

Casey is the newest face of distracted driving. The video, listed on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s website, is dedicated to raising awareness on the issue. It joins scores of others produced by the U.S. DOT. However, this film was created by deeply effected by Casey’s untimely death, her father Joel Feldman. “I saw the videos and I was moved by them. They addressed cell phone use and texting, while that’s a portion of distracted driving its not the whole story,” said Joel Feldman. He added, “There’s nothing I like better to do then to talk about Casey. There’s nothing I like better then to do something where people will remember Casey and this seems like a great way to remember Casey and have Casey’s life and death make a difference.”

The video has been online for just two weeks and has already been viewed by thousands. Family members say so far the response has been overwhelming. As they try to keep driver’s eyes on the road they are hoping Casey’s story will help make streets safer. “Given that I couldn’t bring Casey back the next best thing is to do some good in her memory,” said Joel Feldman.
