“It Scares Me When My Mom Texts While Driving"
Teens have been telling us for years that their parents drive distracted and that it scares them. But, the quote above was from a 3rd grader. There is something really compelling, and heartbreaking, hearing from kids that their parents driving scares them. But we are hearing that all the time in our “Kids Speaking Up for Road Safety" program for 2nd to 4th grade students. Together with Safe Roads Alliance, we developed the program because we can’t wait to teach kids to recognize when mom and dad are driving distracted and how to respectfully and effectively voice their concerns.
Honda’s Grant Allows Us to Expand Our Elementary School Distracted Driving Program
For the 2025-26 school year more than 4,000 elementary students saw our program, thanks to the support of Honda Corporation. With Honda’s support we were able to develop activity books, drive safely cards and banners to complement the lesson plan.
We also saw high school and elementary students working together to reduce distracted driving-a great community effort!
