Servicemen and Servicewomen at Nellis Air Force Base Commit to Reducing Distracted Driving

It was a wonderful experience sharing ideas about safe driving at Nellis Air Force base in Las Vegas last week.  Members from the 57th Wing Safety Office arranged for 3 EndDD.org (End Distracted Driving) presentations to a total of about 200 base personnel.  The 57th Wing is the most diverse wing in the USAF and manages all flying operations at Nellis . Nellis Air Force base has more squadrons than any other USAFB and conducts advanced  training for pilots across the US. They are also home to the world famous Thunderbirds.

I was so impressed with everyone I met.  I am particularly thankful to  Staff Sergeant Ashley Colbert and Lieutenant Colonel Paul Davidson for being such great hosts. Many personnel admitted that  they do text and drive off base and by the end of the talks a number of personnel committed to driving safer for themselves and their families.  We exchanged contact information and I  expect to be getting some safe driving progress reports from a number of servicemen. We also talked about how leadership included modeling safe driving for the public off base and in the community, particularly for teens who look up to armed forces members. .

I was really touched when presented with the 57th MXS Commander’s Coin for Excellence by Major Matthew Zakri and hope to return in the Fall to speak again.
