Distracted Driving Program for College Students Being Developed by University of Colorado Students

University of Colorado students are part of a project that will develop a distracted driving program aimed at college students. The CU students are working in conjunction with the Bacchus network, a national leader in college safety programs, with funding provided by the Colorado DOT.  Efforts will culminate in a state-wide Colorado Distracted Driving Summit to be held in May of 2013 and a program that can be used by all colleges and universities. CU students are also concerned with pedestrian safety and bicycle safety as there have been a number of serious accidents on campus involving pedestrian and bicyclists. Working with the University’s Wardenburg Health Center, students produced a video which explores the types of distracted driving they have witnessed, reasons why people might drive distracted and some simple suggestions to drive less distracted. The video is part of an initiative to raise awareness on the CU campus about distracted driving. Other events for the spring of 2013 are being planned on campus. CU students will also participate in giving EndDD.org presentations to Colorado high school students.
